boutique description

Situated in the Italian town of Porto Cervo on the island of Sardinia, Esmeralda Bazaar welcomes the world’s jetsetters in a luxury setting within a pristinely preserved environment.

During the 1960s, Prince Karim Aga Khan fell in love with a little corner of paradise in northeastern Sardinia, unspoiled and free from modern development. Here he combined the elements of luxury lifestyle and architectural design, with minimal environmental impact, intended to preserve the territory's beauty. This was the advent of the now-famous Costa Smeralda, also known as the Emerald Coast, heralding a new form of eco-friendly tourism and an exclusive playground for the world's elite. It also gave birth, at the same time, to the beachfront boutique Esmeralda Bazar, which is still a gathering point of the who’s who. Today, this little “bazaar” is one of the most exclusive shopping destinations in the whole of Italy, and the most prestigious embodiment of the Porto Cervo lifestyle.

In front of the store, there is a small beach and a private dock that welcomes a high-profile international clientele arriving from the yachts offshore. Just a short sail from this wooden pier, the ethos of coastal living awaits – as well as the joy of shopping at the beautiful Esmeralda Bazaar. The store mood links the boutique with its public, from the interior architecture to the minimalist décor, with design objects scattered about here and there, the size of the rooms and the colors of the items on sale – all faithful to the initial eco-upmarket concept from the 60s. With its unique flavor, Esmeralda Bazaar's presence dominates the famous Sottopiazza in the heart of Porto Cervo. The store was built by local blacksmiths and artisans, who used only natural, locally-sourced Sardinian materials – from the old wood used for shelves and displays to the stone and teak-tree roots used for chairs and organic sculptures. A very unique aspect is the floor tiles that were made by Picasso’s ceramist at the request of the Aga Khan, which reproduce symbols of Sardinian culture, incised by hand. From resortwear to swimwear and eveningwear, the shop offers luxury ready-to-wear and accessories, as well as exclusive beach couture and the Esmeralda swimwear line. The décor showcases the products, all placed at your fingertips, in a way that lets them tell their story in harmony with the Esmeralda esprit. Here, luxury is both a culture and a lifestyle, a one-of-a-kind experience reserved for an exclusive yet highly loyal clientele, pampered not only by the personal shopping sessions on offer but by the dazzling backdrop as well.
